The world appears to be getting smaller as communication and information move through the air at an ever-increasing speed. As a result, especially in light of the current infatuation with social media networks, this alters how the world communicates.
Before social media, our ability to engage with others was severely constrained, and it was mostly limited to the people we knew in person. The parent of your significant other had to answer the phone when you phoned, you had to wait a week to receive your pictures after sending them off to be developed, and other issues that millennials do not have to take care of. Social media and the internet have fundamentally altered how people engage and communicate on a global scale.
The sheer number of people we may engage with as a result of social media networks is one of the largest changes in the way that we communicate.
We can now engage with thousands of individuals worldwide thanks to social media networks, which is why we see people with thousands of Facebook friends or tens of thousands of followers of Twitter. That couldn't be done without social media. We have the opportunity to express our thoughts to a much larger audience thanks to social media platforms. There is no longer a filter on how we speak, which is another significant development.
In the past, regardless of your freedom of expression, there was no means to communicate with others unless you spoke to them personally. We may now reach thousands or perhaps millions of individuals without restriction by using social media.
Social media has also altered the way we communicate, most notably by causing us to lose some of our social skills. Due to their dependence on social media, some people are entirely incapable of having a regular conversation or engaging with others in person. Social media is increasingly the most common form of communication. Anyone use Snapchat or Instagram? A meaningful chat with their child or spouse is less common than checking their smartphones every two minutes.
Both social media and technology have drawbacks. Although it's great to have and can be incredibly helpful, it can also blind us to and deafen us to everything else that is going on. The number of people you observe walking while glancing down at their smartphone the next time you are out.
Another argument for the impact of social networks on communication is that they have changed the way we interact and write. The written word has undergone some significant changes thanks to the social web Writing is better summed up: When Twitter's character limit of 140 was first implemented, the majority of us questioned how we could convey anything significant in just 25 to 30 words.
We have come to understand that the 140-character constraint on Twitter and other social media platforms has really pushed us to communicate our ideas concisely. However, this has made it possible for sentences to be shorter or pages to be written without proper grammatical usage.
More people use abbreviations when communicating, even if they may not be writing things correctly because they are using a totally different language when using social media or text messaging.
The phrase "TTYL" is frequently used to indicate that you will speak with someone later. We no longer give acronyms their full meaning because they are so widely used in today's society. Example- "FB is the finest way 2 use smth," “U have many opportunities 2 promote ur biz.”
There is no right or wrong method to communicate with others or incorporate social language into daily living. But because to technology, we are all being lured into this new world of communication, and if we haven't already, we will need to learn this new language, to cope up with the social world.
Despite the fact that there are other contributing causes, I'd want to highlight three of the largest shifts in interpersonal communication brought about by social media:
Communication
We are able to "connect" with individuals all over the world thanks to the millions of social media users. That's why you see folks who have tens of thousands of Instagram followers or thousands of Facebook "friends." We feel compelled to communicate with others more urgently thanks to the internet. After all, it only takes a few seconds to send a text, DM, email, or snap. Instant messaging has become the standard method of communication since it is quick and convenient to send and receive messages.
No Filter
People were spoken to directly before social media became commonplace. We may now use the internet to express our views, opinions, and ideas. People have embraced social media as a platform to tell the world about their own experiences. All social media sites are uncensored, allowing people to express themselves freely even though some stories are motivating. Particularly for the younger generation, this can be very worrisome. Sometimes, the way we communicate through text can convey the wrong message to others. Different people may have different perspectives on the same things, which could lead to disagreements.
Social Capacity
Despite the benefits of technology, most individuals regrettably prefer to check their phones every two minutes to have meaningful discussions. Because of their reliance on social media, some people nowadays are entirely incapable of engaging in conventional conversation and interaction. I frequently see couples out on dates using their phones whenever I'm in public. I see parents talking on their phones while ignoring their kids. I see social circles of friends snapchatting or perusing Instagram feeds. The problem with technology is that it has deceived people into believing that it unites people while, in actuality, it only serves to divide us.
More than 3.5 billion individuals use social media worldwide, according to the most recent social media statistics. As you may already be aware, there are around 7.8 billion people on the planet, which means that almost half of them use social media.
Before technology, our options for social interaction were very constrained. Additionally, those with whom we did interact were folks we already knew in person. But, now it helps us not to only connect with the people we know but others also and people from one country to other can connect with the help with social media.
