Extending the current offering of design as a minor, FLAME University has introduced a Bachelor of Design (B.Des) program at the undergraduate level. Rooted in liberal education and centered around experience design, the program will prepare students for a fulfilling career in designing technology-driven human experiences - digital and interactive interfaces, tangible interfaces, different forms of immersive storytelling, service design, and much more.
Announcing the launch of the program, Prof. Dishan Kamdar, Vice-Chancellor, FLAME University, said, “The concept of design today requires professionals to have an understanding of the traditional knowledge combined with elements of simplicity and practicality and yet have a finger on the pulse of the demands of the future. The B.Des program, with experience design as a major, is crafted for the future designer, who will not just be able to envision ideas and execute them, but also innovate by creating thought-provoking concepts. Our design education philosophy aims to equip students with relevant competencies and sharpen their skills through a practical and multi-disciplinary approach. The program, which has been created under the advice of some of the best minds from India and abroad, will be taught by faculty who are experts and bring in real-world experience. By the end of the program, students will be ready to take on challenges regardless of the complexities, showcasing the impact and value that design professionals bring to the table.”
The field of design is no longer just about making; it is about having a systemic view of the world and approaching opportunities and modern world needs through creative and comprehensive resolution. Leveraging the liberal education approach of FLAME University, the B.Des program drives to equip students with relevant and new-generation competencies that make their approach, as designers, holistic.
The program is designed based on the insights offered by 50+ global design experts and is vetted by a very illustrious advisory board that comprises none other than Don Norman (known as the ‘Father of UX Design’), Director of The Design Lab at the University of California, San Diego, USA. The B.Des program will be taught by a talented pool of full-time faculty experts with academic backgrounds from some of the most revered institutions as well as visiting faculty consisting of industry professionals.
The curriculum aims to sync with the global expectations of designers and evolve with industry standards, fostering design skills through the cross-pollination of interdiscplinary courses. The program is built on an ‘Experience-centred Design’ curriculum, crafted for the future designer, where the students will get to work on the interdisciplinary nature of complex problem-solving by integrating diverse perspectives and fostering new approaches to thinking and problem-solving.
FLAME has integrated courses from the disciplines of Design, Humanities, Management, Social Sciences and Technology to nurture designers, who are storytellers, makers and doers, and systems thinkers and aims to develop a reflective design-oriented mindset. Students will also get the choice to pick minors from a range of options along with their major. Armed with cutting-edge knowledge, experience, and exposure, they will be industry-ready and can look forward to a rewarding career as designers.
FLAME will also offer financial aid and scholarship to deserving students.
